Coconut Jasmine Rice Delight (Print)

Aromatic jasmine rice simmered in creamy coconut milk for a subtly sweet, flavorful side.

# What You Need:

→ Rice

01 - 1 cup jasmine rice

→ Liquids

02 - 1 cup full-fat unsweetened coconut milk
03 - 1 cup water

→ Seasonings

04 - ½ teaspoon salt
05 - 1 teaspoon sugar (optional)

# Steps:

01 - Rinse jasmine rice under cold running water until water runs clear; drain thoroughly.
02 - In a medium saucepan, combine rinsed rice, coconut milk, water, salt, and sugar if using; stir to blend evenly.
03 - Heat mixture over medium flame until it reaches a gentle boil.
04 - Reduce heat to low, cover with tight-fitting lid, and simmer for 15 minutes without lifting lid.
05 - Remove saucepan from heat and let stand, covered, for 10 minutes to complete absorption.
06 - Gently fluff rice with a fork before serving.

# Top Tips:

01 -
  • The rice stays light and fluffy instead of clumping, with just enough coconut flavor to make plain rice feel like an occasion.
  • It takes less time than you'd think and genuinely impresses people without requiring any real technique.
02 -
  • If you skip the rinsing step, you're going to end up with gummy rice no matter what else you do—I learned this my first time and never made that mistake again.
  • Don't lift that lid during the first fifteen minutes, even once; the steam is doing everything, and one peek can throw off your timing and leave you with partially cooked rice.
03 -
  • Full-fat coconut milk separates naturally—that thick cream on top is liquid gold, so shake or stir the can before using it, or embrace the separation and you'll get pockets of extra richness throughout the rice.
  • If your rice turns out slightly sticky or undercooked, you've either rinsed it insufficiently or lifted the lid during cooking; next time these are the first things to check before assuming you need to adjust liquid or heat.
