# Steps:

01 - In a bowl, beat softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.
02 - Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until fully combined.
03 - Gradually blend in the flour and salt, mixing just until the dough forms.
04 - Shape dough into a disk, wrap tightly in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
05 - Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
06 - On a lightly floured surface, roll dough to 1/5 inch thickness. Cut into heart and star shapes, making a small hole near the top of each for threading ribbons.
07 - Arrange shapes on baking sheet and bake for 10 to 12 minutes until edges turn lightly golden.
08 - Transfer cookies to a wire rack and let cool fully.
09 - Mix powdered sugar with lemon juice or water until smooth and spreadable. Add food coloring if desired.
10 - Apply glaze to cooled cookies and allow to set completely.
