Butterfly Cheddar Salami Wings (Print)

A vibrant platter featuring cheddar wings, salami body, and black olive markings for a fun presentation.

# What You Need:

→ Cheese and Meats

01 - 7 oz orange cheddar cheese, sliced
02 - 2 oz salami, sliced into rounds or formed into a log

→ Vegetables and Garnishes

03 - 1.75 oz black olives, pitted and sliced
04 - 2–4 fresh chives or thin pretzel sticks (for antennae)

# Steps:

01 - Arrange the cheddar slices on a large serving platter in two opposing wing shapes, fanning them out to resemble butterfly wings.
02 - Place the salami slices or the salami log vertically in the center of the platter, forming the butterfly’s body.
03 - Decorate the cheddar wings by dotting them with black olive slices to create patterns and markings.
04 - Insert chives or pretzel sticks at the top of the salami body to form the butterfly’s antennae.
05 - Serve immediately or cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.

# Top Tips:

01 -
  • It's the kind of dish that makes kids forget they're eating actual ingredients instead of something from a craft project.
  • You need almost no cooking skills, just the ability to arrange things and have fun with it—perfect confidence boost before a party.
  • Guests genuinely pause before eating because it's almost too pretty to demolish, then dig in with way more enthusiasm than they would for plain cheese.
02 -
  • Don't slice your cheddar paper-thin or it'll curl and refuse to cooperate; aim for thickness that gives you structural integrity without feeling like cardboard.
  • If your salami keeps getting pushed over by the weight of the wings, use a longer piece standing more firmly upright, or create a small cheese block base underneath for stability.
03 -
  • Chill your cheese slices for thirty minutes before arranging—cold cheese holds its shape and fans more elegantly than room-temperature slices that want to curl.
  • If you're using pretzel sticks as antennae for a gluten-free crowd, test them first because some brands get weirdly soft when they touch any moisture from the cheese or olives.
